Pollitics was started by two friends with different political viewpoints, but the same goals: to educate voters and hold our elected officials accountable.

For American democracy to function as our founding fathers intended, it requires our participation — and to participate, we must be educated and aware of the issues and offices we vote for. The information is widely available. Yet most of us remain largely uninformed about our local, state, and federal government. We may follow key Supreme Court decisions, executive orders, and matters of controversy, but rarely do we have accurate data or knowledge beyond the hot-button issues of the day.

Why we're uninformed

One reason has to do with filters. Media outlets have little interest in running informational pieces of public interest if they fail to draw the audience numbers and clicks that bring in advertisers. Many important issues simply lack sensationalism.

The media cannot be trusted, as the newspaper once was, to distribute the issues relevant to the democratic process for the sake of public interest. Effective government requires us — the public — to hold elected officials accountable for their decisions and their voting record. That information is public, but only to the diligent who seek it out, and tracking it down takes hours out of already busy lives.

So, with the intention of improving our representational form of government, we built an app that gives you the means to educate yourself on political issues — one that drastically reduces the time it takes to process that information, and gives you the power to hold your representatives accountable.

How Pollitics works

You'll receive a short daily summary — one to two sentences — on each issue voted upon at the local, state, and federal levels. You may choose to contribute your own votes, and in doing so unlock the aggregate view of how your fellow constituents voted.

Your profile builds as you vote on more issues. You can share the issues you find relevant, and compare your own voting record against those of serving politicians and candidates.

Here's what we do differently: we never tell you what political party a candidate belongs to, or how a party leans on an issue. This is about what you believe. Once aggregated, that data gives you genuine insight into your own political opinions.

Our app

You may not know the issues, but you know what you value. We ask you questions, you answer. Your answer then tells you how to vote on the topic at hand. No political bias, no spinning of topics — just the facts. Then you decide.

How do we keep this unbiased? All we do is ask the questions. You choose the answers that align with your values. There is no right or wrong answer, because they are your values and yours alone. After you complete the polls, you can see where you agreed and disagreed with your fellow constituents.

Then it's about accountability

If your elected official doesn't vote with the majority of their constituents, they have some explaining to do. We provide a direct contact link so you can express your viewpoint to your representative. And if they keep going against the people who put them in power, you get to decide whether they keep the job at the next election.
